Cloud cover will continue to increase overnight into Tuesday before breaking up and becoming mostly clear after 16z. HRRR shows rain and possibly storm development over the western NC mountains generally around 1-3 PM. The atmosphere will have some support for organization but it’s not “over the top” with a forecasted CAPE of ~600-750 J/Kg and dewpoints in the upper-40s / low-50s around 19z. The greatest area for development will be in eastern TN – more specifically the Plateau with CAPE in the 1,100-1,500 J/Kg range and dewpoints in the 60s.
If anything develops (which likely will to some extent) it will be mostly light/heavy rain, (some) lightning, and (worse case) small hail with the most organized cells.
