This weekend isn’t going to be a washout, but you should watch out.
It’s gonna be hot. Highs will be in the low/mid-80s BUT the dewpoints… the dewpoints will be in the mid/upper-60s to near the freaking 70s across plateau pretty much all weekend.
Rain chances begin Friday with isolated rain showers possible over parts of NC early Friday morning and increasing in coverage area-wide. We won’t have much storm fuel to work with before noon, then after that our CAPE does rise into the 800-1,000 J/Kg range but the lapse rates with a moderate CAP in place somewhat kills our storm chances. While it won’t be impossible for storm development, we don’t need to worry about the severe side.
On Saturday CAPE will be high into the 1,000-2,000 J/Kg range but supporting winds aloft and the overall environment will keep storms tame. Now, not so much for rain. It will be supportive of spotty shower development with a rumble or two in the evening with cloudy skies. Nothing to cancel outdoor activities unless you hear thunder.
Same story for Sunday but we will have a very slight risk of a stronger storm in NE-TN and SW-VA. Again, very very very slight.
As always, when thunder roars, go indoors. I know lightning is pretty but the millions of volts going through your body won’t be.
